A lot of parents ask me how to get their kids into pickleball. It is a fantastic sport for children because the paddle is light, the court is small, and it is very easy to learn. But instead of trying to teach them yourself (which usually ends in a family argument!), it is always better to hire a proper coach to teach them the right fundamentals from day one.
While the official directory is still populating, here is a list of five certified local coaches in Cebu you can contact to help your kids get started:
- Eric Alfeche (Liloan): At ₱500 per hour, Coach Eric has a background in tennis and explicitly mentions teaching young beginners. This makes him a top choice if you want someone with experience handling kids.
- Beboy Almejas (Cebu City): Also ₱500 per hour, Coach Beboy is RPO Level 1 certified. He offers beginner-friendly private lessons focusing on footwork and building confidence—perfect for shy kids stepping onto the court for the first time.
- John Pagsidan (Cebu City): A PPR-certified coach offering interactive drills for ₱500 per hour. Interactive and fun progressions are exactly what kids need to stay entertained while they learn.
- Horace de Gracia (Compostela): A Level 1 coach offering structured technique and movement drills. He charges ₱700 per hour for private coaching, or ₱500 per person if you bring a group—great if your child wants to learn with their friends.
- Rene Oliva (Cebu City): An ICA Level 2 and PPR Level 1 coach charging ₱800 per hour. He focuses heavily on core fundamentals and skills development.
To get their contact information and rates per session, check out their published profiles in Cebu Courts And Clubs (cebucourtsandclubs.com). Always text the coach first to confirm their current availability and ask about the minimum age they accept for students.
