Going to your first pickleball game is super exciting. But as you pack your bag, you might wonder what you actually need. If you are a new player searching for basic advice online, having a simple checklist of what to bring is a lifesaver. Ayaw pag-abot sa court nga walay dala! (Don't arrive at the court bringing nothing!)
To make sure you are ready, here are 7 simple things you should pack for your first game:
- Proper Court Shoes (Safety First!): This is the most important rule. You might think your comfortable running shoes are fine, but wearing regular running shoes on the court is actually dangerous. Running shoes are built for moving in a straight line. Pickleball is all about quick, side-to-side steps. If you wear running shoes, you can easily roll your ankle. Bring proper court shoes to stay safe.
- A Basic Paddle: You obviously need to bring a paddle to play. Do not worry about buying the most expensive gear to have fun. Trusted brands like Joola, Selkirk, or Engage make great, simple fiberglass paddles that are perfect for beginners.
- Lots of Water (Hydration): You are going to sweat a lot more than you think. Bringing proper hydration is a mandatory part of any first-timer checklist. Bring a big jug of water or an electrolyte drink to keep your energy up.
- A Good Towel: Playing in Cebu means dealing with the heat. You will be dripping with sweat after just one game. Bring a small face towel to keep your hands and face dry so your paddle doesn't slip out of your hands. Singot is real!
- Comfortable Sports Clothes: Wear light, breathable clothes. You will be bending, lunging, and reaching for the ball, so wear a comfortable shirt and shorts that let you move freely.
- A Couple of Pickleballs: Sometimes the group you play with will have balls to share, but it is always polite to bring one or two of your own. Just make sure you get outdoor balls if you are playing outside, or indoor balls if you are in an indoor facility.
- A Positive Attitude: Everyone makes mistakes on their first day. You will probably swing and miss the ball completely at least once. Do not get angry. Just laugh it off, tap paddles with your partner, and enjoy learning.
Pack your bag, double-check your shoes, and get ready to have fun. Bawi lang ta sunod game!
